In this podcast, we continue our series on Using SwingLines and Invivo.RMI Indicators and How Does The Stock Scan Work?

We feature Intel (INTC), SPDR S&P Semiconductor (XSD), SPDR S&P Homebuilders (XHB) and Goldman Sachs (GS) as examples of stocks that were at the bottom of the list in the recent past. As a bonus, we looked at WDC, PCP and FWLT, stocks that appeared on using our Trading Ideas for Wednesday.

Shares of Intel Corp. plunged more than 12% early Wednesday after the blue-chip tech giant issued a disappointing outlook and reported fourth-quarter results that came up shy of expectations.

In January 2008 we did a blog post on the Homebuilders and how they were potentially entering the “Wall of Worry” phase of the Investor Sentiment Cycle. You can look at the financial media articles that were posted in there to get a ‘feel’ of what the mood was like. Seems like the mood on Homebuilders has changed once again….

Goldman Sachs Group (GS)
This is an example of what we are currently watching. GS was at the bottom of the list and now trying to find some strength.

Western Digital Corp (WDC)
Technology has been the talk of the town. WDC was the subject of a recent downgrade, but the price action is defying gravity.
- Western Digital 3Q earnings rise, revenue tops expectations 4-24-08
Western Digital Corp. reported fiscal third-quarter net income of $280 million, or $1.23 a share, up from $121 million, or 53 a share, in the same period a year ago. - Western Digital downgraded to “sell” 5-13-08
Analyst Ann Kohler of Caris & Company downgrades Western Digital Corp (WDC) from “average” to “sell,” while reducing her estimates for the company. The target price has been reduced from $9.00 to $2.75. - WDC Rises As Inflation Fears are Eased 5-14-08
WDC shares are trading higher this morning with the rest of the market after the Labor Department reported that consumer prices rose only 0.2 percent last month, compared to a 0.3 percent increase in March, easing some of the market’s concerns over inflation.

Capital Goods: Precision Castparts (PCP) and Foster Wheeler (FWLT)
The capital goods sector has been getting some notice of late. The action in this sector might be potential signs to the health of the economy.
- Precision Castparts 4Q profit tops estimates; total sales shy of consensus 5-6-08
Precision Castparts Corp. Tuesday reported fourth-quarter income from continuing operations of $265.6 million, or $1.89 a share, including the impact of 3 cents a share related to restructuring charges. - Foster Wheeler Up on Surprising FLR Earnings 5-13-08
FWLT climbed through 2007, but has shown signs of weakness this year. Foster Wheeler shares have been rallying with other construction operators boosted by competitor Fluor Corp. (FLR) which said its first-quarter profit rose 63% to $138 million, exceeding analysts’ predictions. - Foster Wheeler Changes Its Tune 5-7-08
Foster Wheeler reported increased demand in its global power group in the first quarter, but the the construction and engineering company’s warning of a possible slowdown in business with U.S. utilities spooked investors.

Thanks a lot for the podcast. This is definitively one of my favorites.
I like a lot the concept of divergence from a different light. Divergence between sentiment in head lines and price action. Also that this comes from the tops or from the bottoms as one trade setup.
The other important concept was looking in the middle or looking at the ends of the list.
