It’s been nearly two months since gold bullion put in a spike top on extreme bullishness. Investor sentiment has deteriorated markedly since then.
One chart that has made the rounds all over the Internet is the apparent head and shoulders pattern seen on the daily chart. Technicians using the classic Edwards and Magee pattern measurement formula would project a downside target in the $740 – $750 area.

This past week saw a strong move up in a number of commodities and the Canadian equity market while the U.S. Dollar weakened relative to a number of world currencies. U.S. equities treaded water while bonds perked up a touch.
All in all, it was another week where the direction of the market was clear as mud to most participants. In times like this, it sure pays to have a diversified investment portfolio that is dynamically re-allocated in response to current market conditions.
