Mark is a member who has been waiting patiently for an answer to his question:
I finally had the time to correctly configure all of the workspaces and InVivo indicators for Tradestation. I have also taken the Ultimate Trading Course. What I am wondering is if there is anywhere on the website or in the trading material that outlines how to use all of the indicators to make trading decisions? Specifically, I am looking for how to use the InVivo histogram in a trading plan. I realize that it all depends on which stocks a trader picks [...]

A stock scan performed after the close on Tuesday for “the cross” found one stock that might be instructive. There were no ‘golden crosses’ with today’s market action:
Covance Inc. (NYSE:CVD)
The 50/200 “Cross”
The thesis goes something like this: the up or “golden” cross (50-day MA moves above 200-day MA) is supposed to be bullish while the down or “death” cross (50-day MA moves below 200-day MA) portends to weakness.

State Street Global Advisors just published:
A Case For…
Using Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) to Manage Taxes
As 2008 draws to a close, time is running out for investors seeking to take advantage of accrued losses in portfolios. Sophisticated investment professionals have long used tax-efficient strategies as a way to maintain equity exposure while offsetting realized gains in a portfolio. In particular, this year’s market dislocations may present investors with increased opportunities to efficiently utilize unrealized losses. While standard brokerage fees are a consideration, the trading flexibility, low cost structures, tax efficiency, liquidity and product breadth of State Street’s family of SPDR® [...]

Many of my younger quant friends went dark yesterday. Very dark. I wanted to send them an email but decided against it, so I’ll say it right here instead, sort of like Jennifer Aniston going to the water’s edge to scream:
FROM THE MOMENT A PERSON ALLOWS THE LEVEL OF THE MARKET OR THEIR NET WORTH TO DICTATE THEIR MOOD AND DEMEANOR, THEIR LIFE WILL SUCK FOREVER MORE BECAUSE THEY WILL LOSE FRIENDS, DRINK TO EXCESS AND DESTROY THEIR FAMILY.
That’s what I learned after spending a lifetime in financial services. It’s only money. Don’t sweat [...]

What a day! Our Dow Death Clock expired just after noon Eastern, and the market never looked back. We owe JG a standing ovation. Bravo!
We said to members yesterday:
The InVivo Objective Sentiment Survey
We mentioned on the weekend that there appears to be a divergence setting up in that the NASDAQ 100 Index made new lows but the number of sell signals is significantly less than it was October 10. In the 52-week high/low department, we’re seeing a similar phenomenon in that the number of 52-week new lows are significantly less than that seen on October 10.
The question, [...]

In today’s article, we will review a couple of points that traders and investors must keep in mind while doing homework. We will use the construction and agriculture machinery industry and some of its constituent stocks as examples.
Best of Breed
The job of a stock picker is to find an industry with good future prospects. Next, focus on the best of breed stock in that industry as it will generally be a better bet than playing the “cats and dogs”, speculative secondary stocks that undercapitalized investors tend to buy at the late stages of a trend.
A stock picker must [...]

As we go to press, our Dow Death Clock has about 20 hours to go. We’ve seen two consecutive closes under the October 10 close, so all eyes are on this test of bottom. It’s almost hard to imagine that the 10/10 low will not be taken out, even if the test is ultimately “successful”.
There have been so many stories today. The press and other blogs are going at full blast, so I don’t think there is much to add to the cacophony. Two stories that might be of interest are:
