It's a small test of top here on the S&P 500 Index. With earnings are nearly done, the question now is if they will sell in May and go away. But wait, investors missed the bottom, didn't they? Today was an important day in that the 4/17 swing high was taken out, triggering the stop loss of many traders that were short (and perhaps luring in some “breakout” longs). Unlike the results of the pending bank stress tests, a test of top is a pass/fail affair, so we’ll see shortly if Art Cashin is right or wrong.

The FOMC issued a statement after the two-day meeting. I didn’t get a chance to inspect the language up close yet, but one person who thinks that the crocuses and green shoots will not amount to much is Niall Ferguson, guest of Fareed Zakaria GPS last weekend.
