So very disappointing. While I knew the govt and major political parties had been captured by corporations, I would hoping Obama would be more of a change agent then this.

The weekend talk shows are all about “structural unemployment”, people having to wait months before finding new jobs and of course, the CNBC headline Back to Work but Unhappy: When Finding a Job Isn’t Enough. Investors are envious of Canada and Germany of late, but look at the numbers, shall we? [Link]
Yep, it’s Tony Robbins, doing a monologue on the pending apocalypse. He’s suddenly a financial expert now. What’s next? An investment newsletter? Would be good if he could pronounce Ber-NAN-ke correctly. Damned that teleprompter! There's more... [Link]
After stock buying hit a bull market record at mutual funds in July, investors freaked out in August and launched a bull market in pessimism and then some. For the record, the S&P 500 Total Return Index was -4.51% for the month, bringing year-to-date performance to -4.62%. The rolling 12-month performance ended the month at +4.91%. [Link]
Trading E-mini stock index futures is more fun and profitable when traders break the day into two parts. Hit and run technical trading tactics tend to work well during price discovery in the first hour while a mechanical, trend-trading strategy captures the big up or down days that often emerge in the afternoon. In this webinar, Teresa reveals the rationale behind her personal trading strategy for intraday E-mini S&P trading, complete with data analysis, backtests and conclusions. [Link]
This is the final weighting for the six ETFs (exchange traded funds) in the U.S. Dollar Satellite Portfolio for the coming week. [Link]

It is possible that a disaster in the Gulf fits with the Administration’s plans for Cap and Trade and ultimately $10/gal gasoline. Obama has pointed this out. One wonders if the half hearted attemps to contain the spill damage are not a result of this inclination as opposed to their inability to “feel the pain” of the gulf cost economy.
I think the Govenor of Louisiana is setting a better example of someone who cares. His economy will be directly impacted.
There will be plenty of time to litigate the cost issues later. Protect the shoreline now. Here are some folks taking on the problem with Government impeding their progress to a large degree. The President should applaude them and encourage others to do the same.

I would also point out that it has not got that bad yet with only 400 birds captured and cleaned so far as reported on the news tonight. My kids returned two days ago from the beach in Northwest Florida (near Pensacola) with no complaints. Business as usual. More problems with alge and jelly fish than oil. Of course that may change.

Oh and by the way can’t Obma kick ass AND work on cleaning up the oil at the same time. He is from the both/and generation after all.

I just saw on the news Obama has $400MM to give to Gaza (where did he get that money?). Why not give that to the gulf states in the US? And if you can have a moritorium on drilling why not a moritorium on Government red tape standing in the way of shoreline protection?

OK, just so I understand the narrative properly. The Gulf oil spill isn’t that bad with business as usual, but Obama really wants it to be worse so he can raise our taxes. The small government conservatives in the Gulf states now need federal money to ensure cleanliness of their coastlines after they worked to gut the federal regulatory apparatus. And the $3.1 billion we give Israel in military aid to occupy Palestine is inconsequential, but $400 million in humanitarian aid to Gaza is somehow going to prevent us from plugging the Horizon leak. Just so I’m keeping up.

Like I said, it’s a generational divide.

I know I am old ;>) but humor me please. It could also be a Progressive/Conservative divide and there are SOME young conservatives.

Your are keeping up and got it mostly right. One thing to add. Louisiana gets way less than other states on oil royalities. Give them what the other states get and let them get started on their clean up and send the Feds back to their box in Washington. They just need to get out of the way. And send Obama back to a Who concert or something. Something he does well he does well at least.
Occupy palestine…… you sound like that reporter that just got retired this week. Whats her name? Helen Thomas?

In a moments of lucidity, even Likud party members admit that it’s an occupation. But you are correct, Israel is usually very adept at managing the message, thus the willingness of the US public to repeatedly vote against our own national interest.

Interesting video comparison by Rachel Maddow between mexico 1979 and today’s leak. Unbelievable similarity except they were able to burn the oil then but Feds won’t tlet them do that today

They were burning last week.
Anthony 8:03 AM on June 11, 2010 Permalink
John, did you even watch the video? The conclusion from Maddow’s video is that the only solution that worked eventually were “relief wells” that weren’t drilled for months after the leak started in 1979 and are still not required in US waters. Why do Canada and Scandanavia require expensive simultaneous relief wells to be drilled with the primary well?
Feds won’t allow burning? Except since April 28th. Duh. Are you okay, John? you seem a little more behind on current events than usual; maybe the vacation was too relaxing…
